Harlingen Medical Center is proud to be partnering with the DAISY Foundation
to recognize and honor our nurses who are nominated to receive this award.
Nominations are submitted by our patients, and/or others who are significant
to the patient, who have experienced an extraordinary display of compassionate care.
The DAISY Foundation was established by the parents of Patrick Barnes,
who died at the age 33, as a result of a complex medical condition. He
was hospitalized many times. Both he and his parents were touched by the
extraordinary and compassionate care provided by nurses.
The DAISY Foundation is a way that nurses may know how deserving they are
of profound respect for the education, training, brainpower, skill and
caring they put into their work. The Foundation honors nurses world wide.
The honoree is surprised with an award ceremony held in their home department
and attended by, if possible, the honoree’s family, the person that
wrote the nomination, the hospital’s administrative team and DAISY
Committee members.
The honoree receives a DAISY Award pin, beautiful hand carved statue, a
certificate, and a banner hung in their home department. Everyone attending
enjoys Cinnamon rolls (Patrick would offer these to his nurses.)
