A Proclamation

Whereas cardiovascular disease is a condition that claims the lives of millions of Americans, both male and female, each year without warning; and

Whereas over one-half of the millions of Americans afflicted by cardiovascular disease are stricken during their most productive years, thereby causing a staggering loss to families across the country; and

Whereas expanded clinical services here in the Rio Grande Valley have contributed to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease; and

Whereas substantial progress in combating this disease is being made by comprehensive clinical care at Harlingen Medical Center; and

Whereas these positive strides in healthcare have resulted largely from the teamwork between the cardiologists, thoracic surgeons, heart care teams, and the support staff at Harlingen Medical Center, and its advanced treatment and technology; and

Whereas the achievements thus far in combating cardiovascular disease gives hope that the continuation and expansion of these programs, and services, will continue to improve the quality of life for patients and improve their life-span; and

Whereas it is essential to the health and well-being of our nation that our citizens be made aware of the medical, social, and economic aspects of the problem of cardiovascular diseases, and the measures being taken to combat them; and

Whereas Harlingen Medical Center, on this day, has requested the Mayor of the City of Harlingen to issue a proclamation designating the Month of February as National Heart Month:

Now, Therefore, I, Christopher Boswell, Mayor of the City of Harlingen do hereby proclaim the month of February 2015 as National Heart Month; and I invite the residents of this great community unify in preventative care – afforded at Harlingen Medical Center and by its partners-in-care.
