Harlingen Medical Center Making Life Better for Breast Cancer Survivors Via Charity Golf Tournament

Harlingen – Breast Cancer. It is a disease that can alter the life of a woman, the life of her husband, her children, her family and friends. It is a disease that can take her life away too – if left untreated. But, thanks to preventative screenings, such as digital mammograms, and advanced medical treatments, there are far more women surviving the potentially fatal disease. For some women who defeat the disease there may be a need for additional support that will further enhance, if not restore, their original body shape. Whether it is breast reconstructive surgery or the use of a breast prosthesis, this type of support is important. It is important to these women. And, there's one agency in the Rio Grande Valley that is offering that kind of support, Ribbons of Hope.

"Ribbons of Hope is affording women, who have survived breast cancer, items such as wigs, turbans, bras and prosthesis, in accordance with their specific needs," said Yanette Garcia, Owner of Ribbons of Hope Boutique. "While we may be affording these items to breast cancer survivors – we are also affording these women confidence, encouragement, and in many cases, emotional confidence that they cannot receive from anything else. It's all about empowering these women to feel whole again. So, that they can move forward with their lives after surviving this disease."

Moving forward is what Harlingen Medical Center is positioning Ribbons of Hope Boutique to do when it offers the agency charitable monies from its 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Rancho Viejo Resort and Country Club. The charitable event is scheduled to start with registration at 7:00 a.m., at the country club's convention center, followed by Tee Off at 8:00 a.m. from holes one and 10.

"Harlingen Medical Center is committed to affording our community high-quality health care along with compassionate care. But, we too are committed to making a difference in our community via our philanthropic work. Our annual charity golf tournament is one way we do that," said Brenda Ivory, President and Chief Executive Officer at Harlingen Medical Center. "We have previously helped local agencies that are having a positive impact in our community and this year we selected to help Ribbons of Hope Boutique."

"We are so honored and grateful that Harlingen Medical Center chose Ribbons of Hope Boutique to help, this year," said Garcia. "We are here to provide breast cancer survivors with the tools they need to help them put their lives back together and be okay. We want these women to know that they belong to a very special group of survivors. That they can still lead beautiful lives, enjoy their families, and in some way be a beacon of hope to others like them."

The Harlingen Medical Center 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, while raising funds to make a difference in the lives of these "special group of survivors," it too will give many men and women, who enjoy playing golf, the opportunity to take their game to one of the most beautiful and exclusive golf courses in South Texas. The golf course at Rancho Viejo features 18 holes - not long in length, natural terrain, barrancas, resacas, and narrow fairways with strategically designed landing areas that will be pleasing to all who play.

The charity event will also feature a hole in one prize, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or GLC vehicle, sponsored by Cardenas Metroplex of Harlingen. The top-three performing teams will also receive top-performance prizes. Mulligans will be sold. A silent auction will be hosted throughout the event, including a raffle. And, door prizes will be given away.

Along with a Team Registration, participants will enjoy complimentary breakfast, lunch, and ice cold beverages.
