This is personalized care, with the same nurse caring for the same patient for as long as possible.

We Are Serious About Breastfeeding

Studies have shown that breast milk helps protect newborn babies from many health conditions. Harlingen Medical Center is participating in the “Texas Ten Step Star Achiever Breastfeeding Learning Collaborative” program to promote breastfeeding.

As part of the effort to encourage breastfeeding, Harlingen Medical Center teaches mothers about “skin-to-skin breastfeeding” their baby during the “golden hour,” the first hour after the baby is born. This also helps to make bonding closer between mom and baby.

At HMC, there is continuous support for breastfeeding from all of our nurses, because it is a learning process. In fact, two of those nurses, Jenny Diaz, RNC, IBCLC, and Priscilla Claudio, RN, IBCLC, have received board certification from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. Please ask them or any of our nurses if you have questions about breastfeeding.
